A note on a phrase that recurs below. Several outlets refer to Gil as "Patient #7". It is accurate shorthand: his 2004 Israeli Ministry of Health licence was the seventh issued in the country, and the first granted by direct application rather than by court order. He holds a second licence from 2008 as the first person in Israel licensed as a Medical Cannabis Instructor. Neither was a prescription, because medical cannabis was not prescribed in Israel at the time.
